This is exactly the wrong time for Ubiquity to piss off their install base and have them evaluate the market and look at possible alternatives. Kinda rough right now, but they are gunning straight at Unifi, even imitating the dashboard's layoutĤ) Engenius Cloud is a straight rip-off/copy&paste of the Unify Controllerĥ) Cisco's SG350 and CBS350 switches and SMB-series APs can be managed via a self-hosted FindIT controller, via the cloud, or managed as a local group in a controller-less setup.Ħ) other players like Cambium/Microtik play more in the WISP space, but they have interesting alternatives as well I'm sure I missed some, but some I know of:ġ) Aruba InstantOn (and "Instant", without the "On" is a good controller-less alternative as well)ģ) TP-Link Omada, if they continue maturing. There are a whole bunch of competitors popping up with similar services. Like the channel has specified, they only really use the Wifi Products and not the other products. But they don't force their customer all on Unifi products. Sure the channel Fanboys over the wireless solution because they do that in particular. Vs $0 yearly and $5000 going to labor keeping things running. Something broke, why aren't you fixing it. That customer will see it as well we paid for this. As a consultant you automatically shove the customer lets say a $5000 yearly bill. In the case of let's say deploying a Meraki system. Regardless of if was the manufacturer's issue or something else. It's because as consultants you need to do customer service. Where Lawrence Systems is clear, they have said why they use Unifi. Where you have 3rd party guys who use the devices come out size recommendations because they actually use the devices. Nowhere in the documentation do they recommend any limits.
UPGRADE UNIFI CONTROLLER LINUX SOFTWARE
The issue is they never made a "limit" to the software so you could have completely underpowered machines running the controller. They'll probably survive this move or could reverse the decision. So while there's the whole jump on the hate Unifi Train.
UPGRADE UNIFI CONTROLLER LINUX HOW TO
The exact type of people who run home labs, and learn how to install/configure them on YouTube.
UPGRADE UNIFI CONTROLLER LINUX PROFESSIONAL
And to me, Unifi seems mostly marketed towards prosumers who don't have professional installations, but want to feel like it. Is there perhaps a tide turning against Unifi on YouTube? YouTube is a big resource for a lot of home labbers, and they get their ideas on how to outfit their labs from the various creators on there. The one noticeable exception seems to be Linus Media Group, but Linus is not shy about sponsored products at all, so perhaps Unifi wasn't willing to pay enough for the amount of exposure his channel gives? That hardware was probably "donated" by Unifi, because there's no way every last Tech YouTuber decided this is the best option for them. I'm reasonably certain that Unifi has been spending millions on marketing on YouTube, because it seems like virtually every tech YouTuber has a series about how they upgraded their entire home network/home lab to Unifi. This is pretty big, IMO, because he's been one of the biggest Unifi proponents in the Tech YouTube community, with a very high profile. But he finally released a video where he's talking about alternatives to Unifi: He's always quick to brush aside criticisms when Ubiquiti's stumbled in the past, or apologizes the flaws away with some excuse. That said Tom tends to be a bit of a fan boy for certain brands, UBNT and Netgate in particular. I really like Lawrence Systems, they cover networking topics really well and very thorough.

The reason I'm saying this is finally having an effect is that Unifi stalwarts in the YouTube community are finally considering alternatives.
UPGRADE UNIFI CONTROLLER LINUX UPDATE
Latest firmware update removes multi-site management from Cloud Key- a feature I'm sure many actual professional customers (not prosumer wannabes) bought the Cloud Key specifically for: Sounds like Unifi's stumbles are finally making waves large enough in the community that people are finally waking up to the fact it's a sinking ship.
